What makes us different
Plenty of driving schools say they are patient. Far fewer will tell you who they are actually set up for. We will: complete beginners, anxious learners, ADHD, autism spectrum condition, dyslexia, dyspraxia, additional learning needs, international licence holders, people returning after years away, and anyone who has failed a test and is dreading trying again.
You have never sat in the driver's seat, or you have sat in it once and hated it. That is the normal starting point here, not the exception.
The first lesson happens on quiet residential streets. Cockpit drill, finding the bite point, moving off and stopping, and nothing else until those feel ordinary. Nobody is behind you, nobody is waiting, and the car has dual controls.
The single most common thing people say on a first phone call is "I'm really nervous". Often they have had an instructor who shouted, or sat in silence, or put them in traffic on day one.
We go at the pace that actually works. If that means three lessons before a main road, that is three lessons. If you need to pull over and stop for a minute, we pull over. There is no commentary on how long you are taking, because there is nothing to compare you to.
Driving asks you to hold several things in mind at once, which is exactly the demand that ADHD makes harder. So we reduce it.
Instructions come one at a time, short and concrete, and repeated when they need to be. Lessons are structured with clear segments rather than an unbroken hour. Where a route has too much happening at once, we break it into pieces and put it back together when each piece is solid.
Longer lessons often work better than shorter ones once you are warmed up. We will work out together which suits you.
Predictability is the thing that helps most, so it is what we build the lessons around.
The same instructor and the same car every week. A plan for the hour told to you at the start, and as much notice as possible if anything about it has to change. Routes you already know until you decide you are ready for one you don't.
Tell us what you need: less talking, no radio, a particular time of day, a specific pick-up point, advance warning before a new manoeuvre. None of it is unusual and none of it is a problem.
Standard driving tuition leans heavily on written material and on quick left-right processing. Both are avoidable.
Everything is spoken and demonstrated rather than handed to you on a sheet. Directions are given as landmarks rather than as a list to hold in your head. Where the show-me-tell-me questions need reading, we work through them aloud until they are yours.
For dyspraxia we spend the extra time where it actually helps (coordination, spatial judgement, sequencing the steps of a manoeuvre) instead of repeating the whole lesson.
Refresher lessons for licence holders who have been off the road, lost confidence after a knock, or never really drove after passing.
Mature learners coming back to it, often after years of meaning to. There is no age at which this becomes odd, and you would be surprised how many of our pupils are in their forties and fifties.
International licence holders new to UK roads: roundabouts, lane discipline, motorways and British road manners, rather than being taught to drive from scratch.
Anyone who has failed a test before. We start by finding out precisely what went wrong, not by starting again from the beginning, then work on those things until they stop being the weak point.
How we adapt
Specialist tuition is not a label on a price list. These are the concrete differences in how a lesson runs.
The enquiry form has a box for anything that would help us teach you well. Use it. Nothing in it goes anywhere except to the instructor, and it means the first lesson is already set up for you.
You are not handed between people mid-course. The same voice, the same controls and the same seat position every week, which removes a whole category of thing to worry about.
There is no schedule you are falling behind. Some pupils need three lessons on one junction. That is information about the junction, not about you.
If you need to pull over, we pull over. If you have had enough for today, we finish early and you are not charged for the time you did not use.
Cost
Specialist lessons are £40 an hour. That covers the additional planning each lesson needs and the slower, more repeated pace that makes them work.
Standard lessons remain £37 an hour, and the 10 hour block booking at £350 is open to everyone. If you are not sure which applies to you, ring and ask. We would rather have that conversation than have you guess.
Full Price ListNo. If a standard lesson has not worked for you before, or you know how you learn best, that is enough to go on. Nobody is asked for paperwork.
No. Anything you put on the enquiry form goes to the instructor and nowhere else. It is not shared, sold, or used for marketing. How your data is handled.
Yes, for the first lesson or for all of them, whichever helps. Just say so when you book so the seat is free.
Often, yes. Taking the clutch and gears out removes a large part of what you have to think about, and many pupils get to test standard faster. Both are taught, so it is worth a conversation before you commit either way.
